There are a few problems facilities often run into when trying to tackle waste management:

Lack of proper disposal methods

Some facilities do not have access to proper methods of disposal for certain waste types, such as hazardous waste, which can cause problems if this type of waste is handled even once.

Lack of awareness

Employees may lack the knowledge for proper waste disposal due to dealing with matters relating to their work first and foremost; a lot of facility staff are not required to dispose of specialist waste, or are not trained in how to properly dispose of it.

Sorting and segregation

Improper sorting of waste can make it difficult to manage and dispose of properly and may result in waste disposal authorities refusing to handle them.

Cost

The proper disposal of waste is known to be expensive and some facilities struggle to allocate the necessary resources to effectively manage waste all while staying in budget.

Regulatory compliance

It can be challenging to navigate and adhere to waste management regulations set by local, state, or federal authorities.
